Gasket or RTV?

Just pick up a stator cover off here the other day and a buddy said that RTV will seal alot better than the gasket and RTV, anyone else agree? I've got a ton of RTV I could use but it looks like there is a small gap between the cover and case, thanks!

It's a stator you only need to keep dust and water out... so it should work ok

i would go with the real gasket over rtv

I would take a real gasket over RTV as well. Without removing the cover you can't tell if you filled in the whole gap and once you've pulled it, it's no longer sealed...

I dont ride in the water more then I have to EVER and never deep enough to get the bottom of the motor wet. However I have always drilled a 1/4" hole in the very bottom of my stator covers to allow any moisture to escape from washing it.

gasket is always best... but if you are in a pinch some rtv will get you through... just dont go mudding over ur pegs

I too would use a gasket bro, But i will say when i used freeks case saver- that left a small gap in there and I used RTV with the gasket, Havent had any issues and have been though some deeper than I like stuff!

Gasket over RTV as well, but if you must use RTV, use the Hondabond, or the Yamaha stuff, or even the Toyota FIPG stuff over the cheap permatex stuff. In my experience anyway.
