Sup dudes newb here.. bought a 99 blaster with a bad oil seal clutch side.. knew that because I read a bunch of your threads and dignois of smoke like snoop doggs tour bus.. didn't stink to bad as far as burning pouring smoking goes.
So I tore into it replaced the seal with a yamaha seal.. so where did I go wrong the seal broke again before I made it around the block!!

I used alot of grease.
Both sides of seal were ribbed.
The collar didn't look brand knew by any means!
Should i have broke in the new seal with a few heat cycles and low rpms???

Did the seal need to be tapped in, or did it just fall into place? If there is any grooving on the sealing surface, (in this case the collar) the lip seal will never seal. You might be able to temporarily get away with moving the seal farther in or out away from the groove. Was there an oring on the inside of the collar? As far as heat cycles for a lip seal, no. As long as they're lubed up when installed, You're probably in good shape.

Hey pmr appreciate your help.
The new seal was plenty snug going back in. The collar was pitted and no "o ring" which lends me to my next question the new collar I ordered, that should be in today, appeared to have a rubber seal on one side. Does the rubber side of the collar face out? And the seal numbers out. Grease inside lip of collar. Clean casing. Honda bond 4 inside of collar and key hole. Let sit up overnight. Pray that I can rip up the beach tomorrow!
