frozen rear breaks

is this a common problem? should i switch to hydrolic breaks? im kinda short on cash and dont wanna spend too much money upgrading if a stock replacement works just as well. the old break box is dirty and rusty, all sorts of worn out. so the whole thing needs replaced.
 
yea man those meachanical brakes are junkers.......get ur self some hydros....get ahold of awk08 he makes a sweet bolt on hydro setup for the rear brakes
 
you dont even have to buy new ones take the caliper off the bike and take the 3 allen bolts out of it open it up and spray wd 40 all over the mechanism and clean it up removing any rust or mud or dirt that is in there thats causing it to not function properly. i took mine apart two days ago and totally cleaned it out with wd40 and now they work like new again. a lotta people dont wana get their hands dirty so they just buy new ones
 
dirty brakes???? try brake cleaner and little emery cloth to clean em up, oil when done, wa la, brakes work again for a couple bucks, spend your cash on something cool, unless you want a different brake set up but i wouldn't buy stockers when yours just need some lovin
 
I just tore mine open today seems like the issue is the pad getting stuck inside so I opened it up seperated all the parts soaked in PB Blaster for a few hours took emry cloth to surfaces that pad slides in cleaned with brake clean then lubed all the parts with lithium grease put it all back together and works like new now I am just waiting for a shorty brake cable I took pics with my iphone but they will not upload I think the file sizes are to big and can not figure out how to get them under 1mb
 
yeah that all works fine, clening and lubing, but they still only work for a few rides, and always need constant adjustments
 
Cable breaks are junk! Do the hydro swap if you don't want to keep working on them every 3 rides. Worst idea yamaha ever had for a bike.
