yes that is a stock piston...i just went out to look at mine i took out a few yrs back and it has the same ARI markings
Well thats what I was thinking. It had a standard bore, hard for me to belive though been in there for 10 years and still looks good. still could see some cross hatching in the cylinder I'm used to replacing the top end every 50 hours on my bikes.
Yeah put about 100 hours on my rm and it's done. Ganted it get the guts reved out of it being a 125 but still.
I just put a stock piston back into an 00 after honing the cylinder and getting some new rings. The piston looked better than the one in the pics!
As long as you keep it oiled and don't let dirt and grim in there.....the stock piston should last a long time. If you do pop the top end off, measure, and if it's within spec, get new top end gaskets, have the cylinder honed, get new rings, and new circlips.....and throw it back together. It's like a brand new motor!
I just got this blaster a wile back. Still has good compression. Drove it approximately 80 hours or so, had a bit of a knock in it so figured it was due. Tore it down on Sunday excessive piston to cylinder clearance. So need to have it bored and honed piston and rings. My bike on the other hand dealer told me that was normal. Jetting was rite, the last piston had no scars it was just wore out.
The factory piston is the best you can get especially if your rebuilding your own bike. It goes together so perfectly.
Alot of people dont realize that they dont put 50 hours on thier motor that much before they rebuild them. Think about it, that is 50 hours of the engine running non-stop, oh, and at race pace also. 100 hours on a 125 is just way too much, on any engine that is an ungodly amount of hours
That's true 50 hours non stop is a lot longer than you would think. I did run it 100 hours once didn't have the money to rebuild it, like I said it was done! I try to do the top end 50 to 75 hours bike sees trail use mostly. Top end is cheaper than the cylinder or a re-coat. Been there.
