Ever had this happen?

I was taking my parts blaster apart to have more room in my shed. I went to take the steering stem off but the nut didnt turn so the whole threaded piece busted off! I wanna know why the nut didnt turn.

It didnt really look rusted. I wanna take the stem off my good blaster to replace bushings but I`m afraid to try to take it off. I went to turn the nut but it didnt want to so I`m not forcing this one.
