Engine problems help

I have a 2000 blaster just put new piston and rings in it and new carb on it pulled it and it started run great for a few then died. Know if you pull it it back fires, cracks and pops, if you put your hand behind the carb it will soak you hand with gas.. any ideas

well since this thread is dead, might as well use it....

Explain some more, in detail, using punctuation so we can understand clearly. List every problem, clearly, and we will help you figure it out!

2000 blaster
I bought it to fix. It needed piston and rings so I put new piston and rings in it. I got it back together and tried kicking it but it wouldn't start so I checked the firing and it was firing, checked the gas and it was getting gas. So I pulled it with another 4-wheeler and it started and seemed to run good, went down the road and started back and it was like it was starving for fuel, now when I try pulling it to start it, it cracks and pops when giving it throttle but won't start

1: did you just put a new piston in or did you bore to a new piston

If you did not bore, guarantee it has low compression due to the cylinder to piston clearance is waaay to big. That's why it will only start while being pulled with another 4 wheeler. You can get enough compression to fire if the crank is spinning fast enough, much faster than you can kick.

3. If this is the case.... STOP! If there is improper piston to cylinder wall clearance, the piston skirt will snag, it will shatter into a million tiny pieces, and you will be tearing down the ENTIRE motor.

4. If this is still the case, guess what, you need to buy another piston, have it bored TO MATCH THE NEW PISTON.

5. Check that gas is flowing good from the tank, make sure the pet wiener isnt shut off.

6. Check your reeds for any crack or splits

7. What are you mixing the gas with? What ratio?

8. Make sure you are using NGK B8ES plugs only.

9. What jets are in your carb?

It was honed out I think it has plenty of compression, going to check it tomorrow.
It ran really good when it started, but acted like it ran out of fuel, haven't checked the reeds yet

Previous owner honed it? If so, dont believe anything a PO says.... Always think the complete oposite with something like this!

It's been bored and it had slight scratches in it so it was checked and said it could be honed out, didn't have to bore it. What kind of compression should it carry?

Of course the scratches could be honed out, but honing increases the bore size...Ultimately increasing piston to cylinder wall clearance if it was not Honed to the piston you were putting in it. It should be upwards of 120 PSI. install the tester, hold the throttle 100% OPEN, kick till your leg is dead or the tester stops

Ok I'm going to check the compression tomorrow, I will post the compression tomorrow. Thanks for all the help
