i have a emissions tester at work as i work in a mechanics garage,
if i put it up the exhaust how readings will tell me if i am running it rich or lean?
it shows up all the hydrocarbons, etc

Phragle put up some guidelines for using an exhaust gas temp sensor a while back. You prob have one of those around too. Search for the instructions.

I don't know that a hydrocarbon/CO sensor would do much good. 2-strokes are notorious for spewing unburned fuel when running correctly. Thats one of the reasons most manufacturers are phasing out 2-strokes.

I would imagine unless you could find a O2/Ratio Monitor thats calibrated for a 2 stroke engine , only EGT's are going to help with tuning , A good plug chop and ass dyno time is the best shadetree mechanics guide out there for 2 strokes .

You just gonna gum up the tester haha
Most oxygen sensors same deal.
Like mentioned the best tester/sensor is an EGT (exhaust gas temp) sensor.
It's not a simple hold it up to the tail pipe rig either.
You have to tap your pipe approx 6 inches from the piston to get an accurate reading.
