is there any of the coils behind the magneto that you can get away with if they dont work, i just bought a 2003 blaster and the small black coiul looks really beat up havnt tried to start the bike yet but i only paid 200 for the whole bike and it has complete hydralic brake system.

also what is different on the 03 from earlier years thanks

The earlier years don't have hydraulic brakes and the nose piece is defferent. The headlight on the earlier models is mounted on the handlebars.
