talked to janssen racing to day, i took my 400ex to them yesterday...

welllll here is what they found... now keep in mine i took it in for a leaking base gasket,

piston on the intake side is scuffed from ether dirty or starting to cold seise, .. i doubt dirty got in it since the filter is clean and in a box,

intake valves are fkd, there sunk into the head, caused by one of two things, dirty, or time.. time meaning lots of hours of use on them,

soooo here is what i know so far... needs new intake valves and valve seats cut/ installed, valves are 40 each, gonna need piston and rings, un sure on price.. plus 80 a hour for labor... thing still ran like a raped ape with the intake valves not opening all the way..

sooo my rough guess is im lookin at 800-1000 bucks to fix it...

i knew i shoulda bought a damn banshee or 250r or lt250r

so when i get it back its going on craigslist for sale or trade for a shee or 250r.. im so pissed!!! someone should be all over it for whats done and top end rebuild recipts from janssen racing

any reason you're not doing the work yourself fed? if you were closer i'd say get teh machine work done and i'll come over and help...

because the last expericance i had with a small 4 stroke motor didnt go so well. ... now if it was my R it would have been apart and back together and broke in all ready.... i dont have the patiance to work on a 4 stroke internally.. ill mod and tune but wont rebuild

im not jokin its going on craigs list right when i get it back

still ran strong and hard!!! took it in for gaskets and turns out to nee way more... im soo pissed...

if it ran that strong with all that fk up,imaigne how it will run now fixed. Think bout this. You spend 600-1000 bucks now fixing it, but if you maintain it you wont have to make another rebuild in long years boy! it all adds up at the end. but its your choice, i would never trade that heavy modded 400ex for a close to stock shee or 250r... maybe the 250r if its really mint.

it wont be no 800$ thats how much i paid for my whole rebuild kit...new cylinder with brandnew 426 sleve in stalled also with gtt HD studs installed, hot cam stage 2, all 4 new valves, valve guilds, valve seals weisco 426 high compression 11:1 piston with pin, and sent the head to shop to get the new valve guilds installed and it was about 840 sum dollars so i think you will be around the 400 to 600 mark......so thats a litttle less to frown about

Yeah man, I don't know what to tell you. Sounds like a can of worms to me, this is exactly what happened with my blaster, ended up costing me 1200 and the jetting still wasn't right. Of course, I found that out the hard way. Find a cheaper shop maybe?
