I just had a genious brain fart. For lacrosse, I dye many of my team mate's plastic lacrosse stick heads for fun. All I do is multiple soakings in almost boiling water mixed with rit dye. Now, I always see people asking about painting plastics but it NEVER looks like actual plastic, it really looks like paint over plastic which I personally dont like. So, how about dying plastics!!! Dying plastic keeps the plastic look and its SUPER tough if done right, like the lacrosse heads. We're always scraping the heads on the ground trying to pick up the ball but if its dyed the color wont come off. Now I'm thinking about how you would get the water hot enough in something big enough for the plastics/fenders to fit in. Something like a metal trash can over a fire or an outdoor camping stove. It sounds complicated but I think if its done right it can be done. What are your guys' thoughts?

i think it could be done. I had a friend who did a similar thing and he said it worked great. But you would have to be careful not to over heat the water or let the plastic sit in the tub for too long. Otherwise if done correct it should look great. First i would try it on something smaller like your hood to make sure it turns out like you want it. Also put some pics up of your results!I:I

A long time ago I read about that done to RC car parts. I thought they talked about adding salt to the water. I thought you had to start with plastic that's not been dyed. Not sure on that.

im also a fellow lacrosse player and have dyed heads and from my experiences you cant dye a darker color plastic to a lighter color for example dying black plastics to say a red or white
