Cracked engine case !!

I finally got my carb to stop leaking,so I hopped on to give it a quick test ride(first ride since extended swingarm,400ex shock, and gforce axle were installed). It felt fine for a minute, but when I went to make a turn the chain popped off and cracked the engine case around the shifter. There is about a 1" piece that came clean off and is hanging on the shifter rod.My question is wether some JB weld or something similar would hold,or should I just transfer everything from that motor(transmission, top end) to another bottom half of a motor? And how labor intensive would that be?Thanks

^^^beat me to it! Durafix would be the way to go if you want to fix it. Overall changing the case would be best, but it is a little bit of work and having the specialty tools really helps.

This brings up a good point. I have been unable to find a case saver for a blaster, anybody know where to get them???

this same sh*t happened to me....learned a lesson though! always put blue (or red on some things) on anything you screw in!
i went the safe route and replaced the case half. i really don't think jb weld would hold (even the hi temp stuff) because that motor is gonna get hot, esp in the summer.
i've done the mapp gas welding on my blaster motor too. it held pretty good, but it's leaking just a smurf hair now after about 10 hours of riding. but that's also cuz of the location of the weld (it was really hard to get a good weld on there). that's prob the cheapest way to fix your sh*t.

Here's some pics of where it cracked off:

I am thinking about trying the JB weld first, since I have some already.Or wouldn't it be strong enough to hold the whole piece back on around the shifter? If not I am going to get some of those welding rods from harbor freight.I do however have a bottom half of a motor that needs some work,I could just transfer everything into it.What would you do...?

(the motor isn't bolted in because I already started taking it out)

That looks a bit tricky....it would be eaiser to pull the engine and preform surgery on a work bench....hope you can weld it...like stated above, jb weld probably wouldnt do....maybe you could weld it, then try some RTV Gasket sealer around the weld...might work, but wouldnt hurt

Yeah, oil poured out of it.I thought that the shaft looked a little bent.I am hoping it just looks like that because the piece is weighing it downward.

since i bought my blaster 4 years ago my case has held up great with jb and i aint using the high temp stuff either.but mine broke in front of the sprocket though my case aint cracked that bad either. you should just get a new case half thats the proper way

hmmm thats going to be a tricky biotch to fix. its dirrectly connected to the shift shaft and when you crank it to shift a gear, its going to put alot of stress on it. i say best bet, split cases, take that side to your local tig guy and get him to weld it up. but you gota take it apart to do a proper weld.

I'm going to try the welding rods first and if that doesn't hold I am going to take the spare engine I have apart and put that side on.I'll post some pics of the repair job when I do it.Thanks for the advice everyone.

All these stories about JB weld holding good, maybe I'll give that a try before the welding rods since I have some laying around.

have you guys contemplated te cost of a jb weld repair faliure if it takes out the trannie??. thee is usually a direct proportionary value that can be applied to the cost of any major repair and either the time or money savings that proceeded it.

i let it sit for about 2-3days with a heat lamp on it so it realy cured well.. make sure the surface is clean and dry i used laquer thinner and a winner brush to clean it up with a lil sandpaper than osme more laquer thinner let that dry than 3 days later hard as a rock!

thank you. jesus people start thinking. thats why i said get it welded properly.
