don't blink you will miss me PA
alright i was out riding today and i come out of a field onto a dirt road in 2nd gear shifted into 3rd and when i went to hit 4th when i pulled the clutch nothing and all of a sudden the clutch cable was real lose my way of thinking is the clutch is burnt but would like some other opinions

i had a similar problem like this once before. not saying this is your problem but, the shifter lever that is in the case that has the spring on it has a rod that it pushes on when you pull the clutch. on the other end of the rod inside the case is a very small ball (like a ball bearing) in between the two push rods inside the clutch. i'm not sure why but that ball fused itself to one of the push rods and the tention in my clutch was completely gone. cable was fine and clutch was fine. i replaced the lever that goes into the case, the two push rods and the ball and problem was solved and has been fine ever since. again im not saying this is your problem, but its something too look at.

how does that come off? the lever i mean

you'll have to bear with me its been quite a while. but i believe if you take the spring out it pulls right out. your carb might be in the way though. you wont be able to tell if thats the problem by removing the lever you have to take the clutch cover off and go from that side so you can remove the push rods. i bet that ball is fused to one of them.

I have the same problem. the clutch lever pulls real easy and doesn't do anything. I'm gonna pull the cover tomorrow and take a look at it. At least now I have an Idea of what might be wrong. thanks 240r

hey no problem, just pull that cover off and squeeze the lever and if nothing happens then its probably in those two push rods and ball area. as long as your cable is good. also make sure you pull the lever that goes into the case out and check it too.the rod could have worn the edge of it out.

I've seen it happen before like that too. the problem was the main clutch basket nut came loose and let the basket have a bunch of play. you won't know unless you grab the basket and pull on it to see how much linear play you have or take off the clutch springs and clutch cover to be able to see the nut to make sure it's tightened all the way on the shaft.

I've used a clean shop rag in a pinch..... just stuff it in between the baskets teeth.

ok took me a while, but I have an excuse, I was camping, took off the cover and it didn't move much, so I took it all apart, the ball was fused to the rod with the nut on it, and the lever had a wear spot on it, but how theheck do I get the other half of therod out? I tried putting a magnet in there to pull it out, but no luck? is there a trick to this, or do I have to split the case?
thanks
