I'm rebuilding my engine and noticed something with the clutch discs during assembly. The second disc from the inside has a ring that slips inside of it. I just put it back where it came from but I have a question. Why is it their? The thing that through me off was that in another diagram, other than the one in me owners manual it did'nt show that ring anywhere. Is this a common piece? Thanks for any ideas.

I dont know exacly what the piece is but it is supposed to be there. most new clutches that you buy will have the ring. when I repleced my clutch last year I found a company that eliminated that ring and sent a standard clutch disc instead. if I remember correctly they claim their clutch was stronger because of that

Yes most aftermarket clutch packs come with an extra disk, so u use that instead of the skinny one and that damn wave ring!

The wave ring is there is eliminate chatter in the stock clutch. That one "thin" disc is the weakest link in the clutch kit, if you have a higher power engine you need to use a regular size friction in that location.

There are companies that advertise a "HD" clutch kit which does away with that thin friction plate and has stronger springs to handle the increased power a 240 kit puts out.

I have my old clutch and it wasnt in too bad of shape can i simply use a full width disk in place of the thin one currently there with the wavey ring?

I gotta make an internal clutch adjustment anyways so perfect time to do so.

That's exactly what I did with my new Tusk clutch when I installed it. I got the standard clutch for like $25 so I jumped on it.

When it came in, it had one thin disc. I measured the thickness of the old clutch fibers(which was not gone by any means, simply sticking some) and picked one within .002" of the new fibers. I installed it instead of the wave ring and thin disc. I don't have any chatter problems and no slipping...
