I just recently replaced my clutch cover gasket. I have less leaking but there is one weird thing that is happening. Two of the bolts where the cover is mounted to the crankcase has oil leaking from the seam. I don't understand why this is happening. Does the gasket need time to be broken in or something. Any input as to why this is ocurring is appreciated

thx

bolts may not be long enough and did u make sure the gasket surfaces were clean of oil and old gasket materal?? and has no nicks or dings on the metal if so u can sand them out with real fine sand paper. the gasket does need to be retorqed after a few heat cycles

I used the stock bolts. I didnt even consider that about the old gasket residue. I guess I will have to open it back up. I have only rode once with the new gasket for about 20 min. Will the gasket still be ok to use?

thx for the help

if its soaked in oil then i wouldnt use it they are only like around 10$ so i would just pick up a new one if u dont want it to leak. i know it suck but its more than likely got oil soaked into it. so when u take it a part just look for groves or nics in metal surface and if theres one then get some realy fine sand paper and lightly smooth it out and u can use a green scotch pad to clean any old gasket materal that melted to the surface off then when it all looks good use some carb cleaner and a rag to clean grease or dirt from the surface then put your new gasket in like u did the old one and after a few rides just make sure the bolts stay snug.

yup always clean your gasket surfaces thoroughly. leaks suck. just a little piece of old gasket on the surface can make it leak

Get some YamahaBond 4 also. Works better than that automotive gasket sealer. I just put a thin film on both CLEAN surfaces with my finger and it works like a charm.

that stuff rocks, only automotive gasket maker/sealer i've used that compares is the MOPAR grey RTV......that stuff is ridiculous

Agreed make sure it's clean..before u put a new one on.. on anything. I actually just ordered that gasket today. found it on Cheap Cycle Parts it was 7.46 without shipping. I never used this site for myself yet.. but few buddies have and no problems that they said..Good luck.
