I have a stock 01 and am looking to get more power out of it and yet keep it reliable. Im looking for a pipe but haven't found a decent priced used one, plus I don't really have a ton of money to work with right now. I was looking at vitos high comp gasket kit....is it worth buying? And I hear alot about airbox lid removal and I guess im not sure if I actually just take the lid of and ride it like that or if I should eliminate all of it and just get a uni pod or something similar. Thinking about reeds too. But im not good at tuning so im looking for stuff that either doesn't need carb adjustments or ones that people can tell me exactly what jets to use. Tors removal worthand my time? Etc
Sorry for the loaded question.

Well first things first every mod except for reeds will need jetting and adjusted. and the gasket kit is bs. so if you dont wanna do jetting then your not gonna be able to do any mods.

If you are willing to do carb adjustments what is your riding style so we can tell you what would be the best bang for your buck in our opinions.

With no jetting you are very limited. You could try a 12 tooth from sproket if you want more low end. The 12 will limit your top speed but make it feel faster taking off.

I have no problem with putting jets in...my bad if it sounded that way. I just don't like the quess work that is sometimes involved. For example if I get a pipe they should tell what jets to use. My riding style is pretty hard when im with the boys but fairly easy when im trail riding with the wife. Not a big top speed guy, im more interested in bottom and mid range. Like I said im not trying to build a banshee killer...I've had hot banshees in the past and got tired of working on them....im looking more for more fun while not sacrificing reliability. Thanks

I don't think this guy is going to be ridding his Blaster long. Most likely will blow it up trying to ride it in the winter without re jetting.

The only way to make sure the jetting is rite is to do a plug chop. Jetting needs will change with mod's and temp changes. It even depends on the location you ride. I'm not trying to be a jerk but lack of knowledge is the number one killer of Blasters or any 2 stroke.

Its not a lack of knowledge....I've been riding 2 strokes for 20 years...I've had banshees, 250r, numerous dirtbikes, etc. I also spend my time working on rd350s, currently have 6. I know all about jetting for temp and elevation, because I used to ride carbed sleds out west but I had a handy little calculation chart. I just don't like trying new combinations of mods and having to do the quess work...and I assume most people don't enjoy that part. No hard feelings, I enjoy the razzing. And if my typing makes me seem slow its because im doing it from my phone and the dang thing adjusts things all the time.

we can give you a ball park on what you need for jeting but you got to fine tune it with plug chops.
for the air box lid most people just remove the lid then you have to go up one or two sizes on the main i would go up two and plug chop to see if you need to go down or maybe up.....
if you want more low/midrange i sugest trying to get your hands on a fmf pipe take the air box lid off a cheap set of reeds maybe change your gearing new airfilter......
you would probley be around a 290 main jet for that again would have to do plug chops and go up or down as needed....
then in the future if you want more you could send the head off and get it redisigned thats going to run around 60$ i recomned some of the builders on here like flotek or kenoconnor best of luck to you anymore questions just ask

We can only eliminate guessing the "range" of jetting. As you probably know (hopefully) there can be two "identical" machine right next to each other and will probably have different set-up. Another "free" mod is the timing plate for +3/+4 advance.

I have air box lid off, kn filter, fatty fmf pipe, pro circuit silencer..... My jetting is 250.... Nice brown color... Went to a 280 cuz everyone on her said I'm running lean etc etc.... Quad wouldn't even move it was so rich.... Toke plug out after trying to get on it... It was soaked.... Dropped to a 260 still alittle wet... Back to a 250 jet and perfect... So jetting really isn't a set it forgot it thing... It's trial and error.. It takes maybe a hour or two to get your blaster running damn near perfect.... Hell I never worked on a quad before I bought mine... Or a 2 stroke for that matter only old muscle cars... After te first jet change I could change jets in 7 min.....

If you are looking for low and mid power DMC Alien is a good choice, and the jetting is pretty simple and stated in instructions. A reed spacer block and one more jet size up will give about 3/% more low down power.

The only 'cheap' things that will get you a noticeable gain are removing the airbox lid, getting a better high flow air filter (possibly removing the whole airbox and going K&N, but that's not exactly cheap), and new reeds.

Reed spacers are debatable, I wouldn't bother.

Blocking off the injection system and pre-mixing will give you more power but you'll have to jet it a little more with changes in temps than you would if you ran the injection system.....the injection system is good if you don't want to think much about jetting, but you're not going to be taking advantage of all the potential either.

If the motor is tired and you've kept it well lubed (the rings are worn out) you can hone the cylinder and throw new rings in there for a fresh top end. If it's been running the injection system and somebody kinda paid attention to trying to maintain the bike just a little, chances are the cylinder and piston will be immaculate. rings are like 15 bucks, gaskets are 20-25, hone for like 10 bucks or buy the took and do it yourself.

After that would be pipe which isn't cheap, but probably the biggest bang for buck by the seat of the pants feel. After that gains will be exponentially more expensive for every half horsepower gained!! Some people try to port the cylinder themselves but I wouldn't try it, especially if reliability is important to you!!

I think after I get a pipe I will just do reeds and airbox lid removal right away.....and then start playing with the jetting. That way im only doing it once. Any filter recommendations, there is a foam on in there now but im not sure what it is
