im trying something new (or at least i haven't heard about it) im trying a wooden chain roller. i got the diminisons from a moose roller. the diminisons were 34x24, so i guessed 34mm diameter by 24mm width. i had a small piece of treated 2x4. i took a 1 1/4 hole driller (the thing with the drill bit in the center). so i drilled through the 2x4 and the donut thing is going to become the chain roller. i measured out the 24mm width and cut the excess off with a dremal. now i had the basic shape of the roller. i changed bits on my dremal and cut the grooves for the chain to ride in.
so has any one heard of this, tried it?
any idea how long it might last?
any input would be appraicated I:I
sorry no pics at this time batteries died on me but will try later

The only thing I would think you could use is the oil pressure treated lumber. My grandfathers combine had several wooden friction blocks. They were a hard wood and treated under extreme pressure to infuse the wood with oil. I don't think standard exterior lumber will last very long.

I agree with Caterpillar that it probably won't last long, but its worth a shot. I'd suggest to keep an eye on it and your chain too, the wood shavings might get caught in the chain and cause some excess wear.
