TLDR: my chain has 3.5 inches of slack and jumped off the front sproket twice. How much do i have to worry about it locking up my tires when i get it back to half to an inch of slack like supposed to be?

Just got my blaster running for the first time since i got it =).
so my chain is super loose (3.5 inches slack) and adjusted all the way out so im gonna remove a few links to get it back to normal slack.
It jumped off the front sprocket a couple times today when i was going slow, im glad it didnt when i was doing 50 before it ever jumped off in the first place.
First time was when i was pulling out the gas station and i easily just rolled it back on, second time i was doing some drifting in a parking lot, luckily i was coming out of the drift and not halfway into it. had to undo the rear end and everything to give the chain slack broke a pair of pliers but finnally got the chain from being stuck under the front sprocket.
once i get it to like half an inch to an inch of slack like its supposed to be how much do i have to worry about it jumping off the sprocket?
Im planning on modding it to do 65-70 with sprockets and tires prob some engine work after that, and i dont want my back wheels locking at that speed, i dont have a death wish that bad lol.

If you have your chain properly tightened, your chain will not fall off(unless snapped) so your tire won't lock up

If it snaps... Let say your case is screwed if you are on the power...

thanks man yeah im mainly worried about it falling off and getting the front sproket stuck like today i think if it snapped at that speed itd just shoot it out but i could be wrong.

Maybe i should wear a helmet i havent in years but ive only had shaft driven utility quads and im not really worried about that locking up. I did have a truck of mine on 35s lock the rear end at about 45 through a turn, but thats the only time ive ever heard of it and it was an early 70s truck anyways so i mean what do i expecy. luckily i practice crap like that on dirt roads and whatnot before it happens in an emergency so i was able to drift through it with 3 wheels still on pavement when i came to a stop haha.
Dont think im gonna be trying to lock the rear of an atv at that speed any time soon though haha.

You're lucky you didn't bust the cases. Odds are you should replace chain and both sprockets. IIRC slack is more than 1/2".

Shaft or chain drive doesn't matter, you should wear a helmet. That is unless you like riding the Short Bus. How about posting a pic of you riding without a skid lid? :o I:I

Chain slack should be 30 to 40mm with the rider sitting on the bike, thats about 1" to 1 1/2".

If the chain is riding up and off the front sprocket, I would be looking at replacing the chain and sprocket set.

A good chain married with a good sprocket set should not ride off even with an excess of slack.

The chances of a poor chain on worn sprockets jumping off or breaking is not solved by tightening the slack.

If you tighten the chain so it has only 1/2" of slack and the front sprocket is very worn, there is a major chance that the chain will ramp and break.
