my rear carrier bearings/axle have a little bit of play in them. I'd assume they are not in perfect condition, but will they still work alright or will I 100% need to replace them?

check your axle nuts, make sure they're tight, and if so, do replace, i had a set lock up out on the trail, took almost an hour to drag it to the road, to get trucked, then put new bearings in and they did the same, so obviously the first set ruined the carrier, it cost me $180 for new carrier from a dealer, you could find used for less but why chance it for $20 bearings
