I'm looking into parts for my 96 (approx not sure) and may have to order OEM, or order late model parts, that my dealer MAY stock, but probably won't understand anyway X(

After comparing parts listing's I find very little differences between 96 and say 06 parts and need to know what is interchangable.

ie.
listings for front LEFT Alxe Stub
1996 3JM-23511-00-00 KNUCKLE, STEERING
2006 5VM-23511-00-00 KNUCKLE, STEERING

(I realise that 96 are drums and 06 are disc the part LOOKS identical)
Alot of parts have the same CODE in the Second Column. Then 00-00 ending.

Is the first code the year? Model? Or colour coding even?

Would these two parts be interchangable? Without trail and error knowledge?

Cheers.

unless its a in/out of stock thing do what MR305 said and just get parts for the year of your bike. most stuff is interchangeable but once you get over 03 some stuff is different.

i do think those axle stubs are different to accomodate the disc brakes, cause when guys do the disc conversion on a pre 03, they say you need the stub too

Yes that is the kind of stuff I am needing to know. If a set of shocks etc... Come up for sale then I won't have a choice of turning them down because I won't get another chance.

One of the only dealers that is avalible will stock aftermarket front suspension recon kit for A blaster, with bushings...etc, but can't tell me exactly what they are FOR just the part numbers and as a kit. I want to be able to figure out if its going to work or not.

Now I have some experience I understand that pretty much the only parts that have changed in 20years have been the brakes.
