Ok i am in the midst of my engine tear down. I have got the case's completely disassembled, other than the star mod are there any other improvements i can make to my bottom end?

and is the star mod worth it?

thanks, dg

I haven't done the star mod but while you have it appart you can port match the cases to the jug. If you have a dremel tool you put the jug on one half of the case then take a look where they meet at the transfers and see where you need to remove some material to smooth the transition. Take the jug back off and take your time so you done remove to much and keep checking progress. This will help airflow through the transfers. I also take my base gasket and put it on the bottom of the jug and trim it so there isn't material hanging into the transfer area and keeping the transition from the cases as smooth as possible but not polished. Another thing you can do is lap the cases. I take a sheet of 9x11 (largest I can find) peice of 400 grit sandpaper and tape the corners to a flat peice of glass or mirror. Anyhting perfectly flat and then use water or wd 40 for lube and smooth the mating surfaces between the cases. 1 more thing I. Tried was alumabrite to clean the cases up. It worked ok but they need to be pretty clean to start as this is a chemical clean and pretty nasty stuff.

When I was a boy the recommended lubricant for alum was Methylated spirit, and the lapping movements should be done in a figure 8 motion.
