i bought a motor and frame on craigs. didnt come with piston and the crank/connecting rod is froze up. i can see little metal chunks that appeears to be frome the piston and pieces of rings. how much damage could be there? is it a major problem?
im working on splitting the cases. i knew that already i have the bottom end rebuild kit. if i replace the hole crank and berings i should be good? if it hase holes are you meaning all the way through like leaking oil out the bottom because thats not the case. what happens if their is minor holes?
Any hole needs fixed, there could also be holes where the balancer is at that is a common thin place! and will need repaired, Sicivic is the man for that.

ANY damage to the crankcase area has to be repaired before the engine can be run. Crankcase damage will result in a lean condition that could take out a top end.
as far as the metal goes just be sure and clean everything good, u need to replace the crank bearings also, u dont want any metal hiding in there. Replace seals too.
i ust tore one down that had a skirt break. it has a lot of small particles of aluminum in the crank bearings.. NOT GOOD!! it needs split and as said the crank bearings replace and cleaned well. there could also be a hole not visible to the outside. they can usually be seen if you look in good light and turn the crank to look through the webs.
