i got a used engine today and im trying to figure out the bore size because the rings that are on the piston are the wrong ones do i use a ruler or what

Really? A ruler? No sir, a ruler is simply not enough to measure current bore size.

The good news is, the tools needed to measure the current bore size aren't terribly expensive.

If you go to Harbor Freight Tools ? Quality Tools at Discount Prices Since 1968. and search item # 94447 (precision measuring tool set) and item # 47257 (6" digital caliper).

Together they'll run you about $30.

how do i figure out the brand of the piston, cause i would like to match the rings

There are only two different types of rings; wiseco and everyone else.

Wiseco rings are obvious because the alignment pin for the wiseco is cut out of the "inside" of the ring while the others have the pin located on the "bottom" of the rings.

is there any markings on the piston, cause rings are whats wrong, they are not the right ones. I want to match new rings to my piston.

its a 67mm piston

Carefully clean top of piston. Should be able to find some kind of markings.
