Hey all.

On my kid's '03:
It starts up and idles fine, but try to give ANY throttle and it just bogs down - seems like the engine goes under load but with out an increase in RPM.

-fuel flow from tank to carb is good
-intake is not blocked up with anything
-plug looks good

Any ideas?

you check the reeds ? is the slide in and functioning correctly and with a secured top ?

my sons scrambler90 did the exact same thing. after rebuilding the carb about 8 times and still not getting it fixed, i ordered a new carb. fixed the problem and it ran great until the piston gave up.

does it maintain a consistant rpm, or does it sputter//die out.

if the parking brake is set, it activates a rev limiter in the CDI. make sure the parking brake isn't set and it's still doing the same thing

the TORS is the Throttle Override System. you could try removing it and see if that solves the problem.

past that, you could try cleaning/rebuilding your carb.

-It idles fine, but I will check the parking brake - if that is the cause, is that an indicator that the CDI is going/gone bad?

-I will read up on the TORS system as well.

Thanks.

Air leak possibly? Spray carb cleaner or wd40 around carb, intake, cylinder, etc. if the rpms change, you found a leak.
I did check for leaks the other night.....nuthin'.

The other suggestion about the parking brake/CDI has me wondering if that might be it - if the ignition is being cut above idle but I'm giving it more throttle (fuel) that might be what is causing the engine to load up but not gain RPM. If that sounds right to you guys that know these machines?

no. if the CDI were going bad, i think you'd have trouble even getting it to start and idle. you can disconnect the parking brake override if i'm not mistaken.

if your parking brake isn't set, i'd look at your carb/intake..

have u snipped a bit off the ht lead? changed plug cap? sometimes when the HT lead or plug cap is goin it'll idle ok then when you rev it it causes it to vibrate and creats a dodgey connection.. if not then check ur floats arnt sticking open
