I recently put a new top end on my 01 blaster and it was giving me problems starting...I didn't think anything about it and recently went for a ride with my buddies it ran great for about 5 hours but now when I try to kick it over it will sound like its going to start but then it dies out...and when it does start I have to hold the throttle wide open but it doesn't go any higher then a little over idle...any ideas would be welcome thanks

Sounds like it's not getting enough gas. Try cleaning out the carb & the petcock valve on the tank.

I'll give that a try but I have a question in the mean time...when I disconnect the line from the fuel filter to the carb and turn the gas on it flows fine which makes me lean towards a failure in the carb, is there any way of testing the carb

You could try squirting a little gas into the carb while holding the slide open, then start it. If it revs up then dies again it's probably a dirty carb.

You said you just put a top end on that engine. After you put top end on, then it would'nt idle? If you had idle problem after rebuild I would also suggest a air leak. I guess the only way to check for leaks is to build a leak down tester (search leak down tester on this site). Hope it's something simple

Yea I put the top end on it and it started up no problem and I took it out a couple of times and there wasn't any problems...I took it out last week with my buddies ran it for about 5 hours and shut it off to wait for another guy and when I tried starting it back up and I got nothing out of it, just a sore leg from kicking. Now when I try to kick it over it sounds like it wants to start but then it dies right out

It could be many things, but I would say it's a air leak. You were making enough vacuum to stay running but when you shut it off you cant get enough vacuum again. Guessing you got leak on last 5 hr ride.

Got it runnin today...stupid TORS I cut the switch out of the throttle box spliced the two wires together and the beast lives...thanks for all the help and ideas
