lisbon falls me
I was driving my blaster today and all of a sudden i went to hit 4th and it didnt go so i tryed again and still nothing....then when i went to downshift it wouldnt do that either...What is the prob?I dont abuse it..I always use clutch to shift down and up.Any help would be apreciated....thanks in advance

it moves to a point where i cant move it any further then springs back. And as far as i know it has oil in it....it did have oil so it should still have oil unless it developed a leak.

check? and if its low or doesnt have any, just drain whats left and take off the clutch cover and check the shifting mechanisim. do you have any engine/transmision knowledge? if not, we can help out. just ask. pictures of the shift shaft, shift star and spring wheel and theres a kinda C shaped claw with a spring on the end of the shift shaft that crabs the star gear and spins it. that could be your problem, if either the spring on its gone, or the C tips are worn or broken.

by the way, when you take off the clutch cover(AFTER draining tranny oil) still have a pan under the engine(obviously under that spot) and some rags handy because oil still spills out even after draining it. like not just a bit, quite alot comes out. i learned from experience lol...

PICS OF EVERYTHING! just take a bunch after you get it open.

Ok and yes i am very good with engines and tranys. But yea i will take pics unless i see whats wrong right away. I read my manual and it says that i could have a bent shift shaft or seized gear or forin particals jammed in there or something wrong with the shift cam.But yea i guess i gotta take that cover off and take a peek. thats the only way i will find out. thanks for the info.

.....Sounds Familiar..... :-D

If you need to see a break down, go to My Yamaha Prompt - Parts Catalog , click ATV, Year, then Blaster, and you will have all the parts diagrams that you will need for anything.

After you get into it and report with more info, if you have not figured it out, we should be able to help you out. Do pay close attention to the shift shaft end that has the claws on it with a spring. Claw should not be sloppy or loose.

i just bought all the gears and shift cam and all that stuff for 45 bucks. All in good working order. So yea whatever is wrong with it i got the part to fix it.

Funny because everybody always says TORS. Sorry to say but there is nothing on a blaster that is hard to work on. If you know what you are doing you can have that engine out of the blaster and tore a part in about 1 hour give or take. Just download the service manual in the DIY section it will tell you step by step how to do everything if you can't figure it out yourself.
