When I bought my blaster it would kick start but every once in a while the kicker wouldn't catch. Now it won't catch at all. It will return to its original position but that's it. Before I tear this apart, I'd like to have an idea of what I'm looking for. What could this be?

it's really easy to push it down. feels like its not catching. bike will drift start though. and top end is relatively new

yeah pull your clutch cover off, youll see that there is 4 things that need to happen, one is that when you push down on the kick lever it should engadge the kick start gear which will engadge the idler gear then that will engadge the gear on the back of the clutch basket which should turn the motor. sounds like on of those is stripped.

you could just pull the spark plug look into the cylinder an kick, if the piston moves up and down its catching

sounds to me like one of your gears is stripped. if you can popstart it , it shouldnt be your top end.

It is more then likely your kick spline. As i just had to replace mine. You could push it down and nothing. The way I looked to see if it was catching is take the oil cap off and with a flashlight shine it in. You will be able to see if they are catching or not.

Take the cover off and look at it.You can turn your quad on it's side and not lose too much oil when you do it. The kicker return spring has a tight hairpin bend in it. That bend should be in it's slot, the tab on the back ring should be in it's slot, and the top end of the spring (where the 90 degree bend is) should be in the hole near a bolt hole at the top left.

Check out this link, it will help you to know what you are looking at. http://www.blasterforum.com/do-yourself-20/how-install-kickstarter-gear-2227/
