I am not only new to this forum but new to my blaster. I got it over the weekend. I've been riding it slowly just to make sure that I am used to it and all. It doesn't have rear brakes but from what I am gathering from this site already, that doesn't really matter unless they are converted. They aren't. But after riding it around the yard and in the woods a little bit I decided to take it up to the garage and go in. the garage is just up the road so I wanted to see how quick it was. I got to 5th and this is where it took the dump on me, it started sputtering and just died. I pulled it over and took a look at it. The cooling fins where smoking where some oil or something (i'll explain in a second) had landed on it and was smoking off. Then the steering rod or whatever you would like to call it, I will call it a steering column, was just covered in a black liquid that I know was not water mixed with anything. Didn't take it through any puddles. But at the same time I don't see how in the hell oil could get there... there shouldn't be anything like that up there. And to me it seems like this should be completely unrelated to the next problem if it did come from the steering. The engine died completely and all but I did try and start it again and instead of being locked up it cranked up first kick. I was stunned but then it started to rev. And it just kept going. So I thought the throttle was stuck, so to test this I gently eased off of the clutch into first ready to rain in the beast should it take off but the damn thing died. Why in the world would it do that? It also drove around fine and didn't rev high while I was just testing it around the drive way and shifting. What could this be? I just got it and would really prefer that it not be crap just yet. I've not got a lot of experience with a wrench on something running but I have tinkered around to try and learn more about these things on a CR125. Never did run though. Hoping you guys can help me save a ton of cash.
I'd like to know what that was on the steering column so I either know what to refill or know what to fix. Also how in the heck can I fix the revving thing? Also the kill switch doesn't work so I have been just killing it in first, is there an easier way to do this and does that hurt it? Is there an easy way to fix that kill switch? And the kill switch works sometimes but rarely. Also what fluids would you guys recommend for me to change them all, just yamaha stuff? (Gas and oil is mix myself, thankfully the other owner already blocked it)
Thanks guys.
