i got a 2000 blaster. just did a new cylinder bored .5 with piston and rings. it starts up backfires and stalls out. then when i go to start it back up i gotta hold it full throttle for it to start. it ran fine before i did the rebuild. can someone please help me with this situation. thanks

Reeds! Check 'em. Gaps, nicks, or chips...not good. Replace anything found faulty.

Did you have the flywheel off at any time? If so, be sure the key is in place and intact; otherwise your ignition timing may be off.

TORS system? Gone or still on? Get rid of it if you haven't already.

Did you do a leakdown test prior to starting the engine? If not, I would. Engine's crankcase should hold 5-7psi, no problems or leaks.

Try a new spark plug as well. Turn the igntion on, hold the plug to a ground, and kick it over. Watch for spark. Don't get shocked. Lol. May be as simple as a defective spark plug. Gap should be .028"-.030"

reeds are good. im heading out for new spark plug. and i havent taken the tors system out yet. i will do so. will get back to you later and let you know what happens. thanks

No problem, keep us informed. It is something simple if the bike was running well before being messed with. I had a Honda ATC110 that ran great one day, got parked, and wouldn't re-start the next. Turned out to be a shorted spark plug. The plug would fire from the center electrode to the shell, not across the gap to the ground strap.

And yeah, get that TORS out of there. It causes all sorts of funky electrical problems, and getting rid of it makes working on stuff easier as well. In my opinion. Cut out switches, don't splice any wiring together, and unplug the 'Black Box.' Done.

waiting on sparkplug to get hea.i took carb off and cleaned it up. i also checked for the tors system. looks like prrevious owner disconnected already. tried to start and it wouldnt start up.

Hopefully just a bad plug. We'll see... The 'black box' with the 3-wire (black and yellow) plug under the 'hood', as well as the plugs going to the thumb throttle and carburetor cap must be un-hooked to ensure that the TORS is inoperative.
