CDIs are usually a Go/NO GO part , usually more pronounced at high RPM/load if there is a problem. Could be as simple as adjusting the idle stop screw, or maybe idle air screw. Perform all maintenance suggested and get back on here.

Wasn't saying it isn't possible, but odds are greater for high rpm misfire and odds are greater that it's something else. Considering all other possibilities are free or real cheap (New plug) to fix that's where to start.
To reiterate what others have said, replace the plug and readjust the carb for starters. Do a compression or preferably leakdown test to make sure the engines healthy. Usually stalling problems are carburetion, so digging into the carb would be the next step.
