Hey guys, love the forum.

I bought a 1996 blaster off craigslist for $200. The guy i bought it from let it sit under his deck for 5 years and now it is locked up. I'm guessing there is just rust in the motor. I asked around, and I've heard all I might need is a new top end. What do you guys think?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

pull spark plug out and pour a oz or 2 of 2 stroke oil down into the cyl and let it sit for a day or two, next pull the carb off and clean it out, well the carb is off pull the reeds out and inspect them, ...

put carb back on, new plug, and fresh gas, ... if its been sittin for that long and the oil injection tank is still on it id take it off and clean out the tank and put fresh oil in and mix the first fresh tank of gas 50-1 and the injection.. if no oil injection run the first tank of gas at 20:1.
will smoke like hell and prob foul a plug or 2 or 3 on that first tank but the extra oil wont hurt anything, just a added messure of safety on a old motor

5 years sitting outside is not good. Will it kick over.Either way I would be tempted to do a full tear down, lower end and all to see what good things have happened. But if it kicks over and compression is good you may be able to squeek by.But if it is locked up,I suggest a tear down.

how much would a new motor cost? i feel like $200 is a pretty good deal for a 96 so if i can get a new motor for cheap i would consider it

talk to ready2rev on here he has a realy good engine for sale nice botton and top throw him a pm i believe it was around the 300$ or 350 range

Wait wait wait. You wont possibly need a new motor. Stop saying new motor. The one you have is prob good. Just inspect it, deff. rip off the top end and maybe split the cases just to see if everything is good.

first thing's first, see if it'll kick over, then from there start digging deeper, i'd definitely pick it up for that kind of money tho...

pull the head off and see whats up, if the piston is at tdc pull the exhaust off and pour some oil in the bottom to lube the crank, then pour some on top of the piston.

Just my 2 cents but if it has sat for 5 yrs outside, if it does run it will explode shortly their after. The crankbearings haven't had lube for five years. Split it and put crank bearings, crank, and top end in it.
