Blaster runs better when running out of petrol

I recently had my Blaster worked on to get it running smoothly again and it runs great, however I was just riding around and suddenly it went to the next level with the amount of revs/speed, 20 seconds later it stopped (out of petrol)

Is this a normal thing with 2 strokes? Gaining power when they are out of petrol. Or does that mean there is another issue with it (that it should always be running that good)

Thanks guys :)

With any infernal combustion engine, it is the correct ratio of air to fuel that defines power/realliability.

If the mixture becomes air rich (as in running out of fuel) the power will increase, but the heat produced internally will be destructive.

Pro racers usually tune their AFR to be on the lean side to get the maximum power from any given engine.

Podium positions are what they strive for, but they come at the cost of a shortened engine life.

Thanks for everyone's replies, very helpful and informative, will try avoid letting the tank empty in the future

Define "worked on" if you can. 80% of every thread on this forum that mentions that another person worked on their engine also includes an issue that the owner is experiencing. In an effort to save you time, money, headaches, and waiting for replies to a thread, go ahead and leak test it, do a compression check, make sure the filter is clean and the carb is mounted very well, and do a plug chop. Every ounce of that information is contained within this forum.
