I have an '01 bought from a friend who rebuilt it before he parked it. Hasn't ran in awhile but got it running fine until today. I had a clutch problem, so I took the cover off and adjusted it, got the clutch working. Now when it does start after several kicks, it runs really rough, misfires, and every once in a while makes a spitting sound from the engine. I rode it down the road and it is smoking like a mosquito truck with thick white smoke. I am running 50:1 mix and I replaced the tranny oil with 5W-30 oil. Oh and it will not idle for anything. When you give it gas, it tries to cut out and bogs pretty bad. I have only ridden this thing once since I got it and that was today running like crap. I'm dying to get it in the woods!!! Please help me!!! This is my first Blaster by the way so I am learning as I go. Thanks!

well first off, that WAY to much oil....try 32:1 or 40:1

and another thing, if its smoking a real white smoke then sounds like you need a new crank seal

and if its blue smoke then its just the oil being burned...but thats way to much oil in it..

sounds like a crank seal issue
01 how is that a 50;1 ratio to much oil lol thats the lowest amount of oil you can run and expect to be ok

bahhhhhhhhhh hahaha to much oil lol not....to little oil in my opinion depending on what oil your using.......and if its white smoke and smells like burnt oil your looking at getting new crank seals very easy to do and cheap....

FUK! ahha man do i feel like a TOTAL IDIOT......ahah im just gonna stop talking now...ahah fioz600r is right...in my mind i didnt think clearly before posting and switched the oil ratios up, my bad, but im just gonna stop talking now....lol

Hey bro everyone has a brain fart here and there LOLI:I

would the crank seal seal cause it to misfire? and the crank seal is behind the clutch basket and main drive gear right? will i have to remove the crank to fix it? if so doesn't sound like such an easy fix.

If the seal is real bad you could be getting gear oil in the crank case causing your smoking and the missfire. Did you replace the clutch cover gasket after you took it off too fix the clutch?

And no the crank seal is in front of the clutch basket behind the primary drive gear. Its the big gear with the little gear on top of it.

The clutch cover gasket looked ok, so I didn't replace it. I am going to tear it back down tomorrow and look at the crank seal, replace if necessary, and replace the clutch cover gasket also. Should I go ahead and replace the spark plug too? What should I do about unburned gear oil in the engine? You guys are awesome! Everyone that has replied to my posts has been very helpful, thanks!

Everyone pray for me and my tear down project tomorrow. Hopefully it won't be as bad as I think. Maybe I can finally take it in the woods when I get it fixed.

Went to the Yamaha shop and ordered the crank seal, and both side cover gaskets. Got some Yamabond sealant, UNI air filter, filter oil, new hardened bolts for both side case covers, and a quart of Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 full synthetic motor oil for the tranny. The seal and gaskets won't be in until next week so it looks like I'm not riding this weekend, AGAIN!!! I was really hoping to be able to rip up the trails this weekend. DAMNIT!!! Oh well, the woods won't know what hit 'em when I get out there next week. I'll post again when I'm all done and let ya'll know how it went.

I dont recommend running synthetic oil in the Blaster. It will cause the clutch to slip. The only synthetic you should use is one with a friction additive for the clutch. The regualer sythetic motor oil has no friction additive in it for the cluth.

I just run Pensoil 10w30 and change after everyday of riding I do. Cheap insurance.
