well after putting my 34mm keihin in on saturday, got it running, was cuttin out when i stabbed the throttle, but top end is wicked especially with the vf3's, but still very hesitant after 1/4 throttle to over 1/2 throttle, and pipe is puttin out smoke the whole time(no my seals arent bad) the info i'm readin says to raise the clip for stumblin at that throttle position ???,i raised it, still doin the same thing, but when i hold it at 1/4
throttle it's blowin about 4 inch long blue flame out of the silencer, looked like a damn fighter jet kickin in the after burners!!!!
i shut 'er down and came in the house, garage was very smokey and to late to open the doors, will resume tomorrow, theres a 150 main in it, thats all i know, and i didnt get new plugs yet for a chop, gotta get the bottom goin first, then we'll fool with mains and plug chops
any suggestions

gonna check pilot tomorrow, but not really too worried, she's gettin tore down soon to go for porting then hav'ta do it all over again anyway, maybe flotek will have some starting points for me????

thanx yb, you mean after i get porting??? since yours is all full of beef!!!!

does it idle and if it does how well does it idle.....
"cutting out" when you stab it usually means its a little lean on either the pilot or the needle its cause when you open it up suddenly and there is a lack of fuel there which causes a very lean mixure for a very short time but long enough to notice....

make sense??

it idles fine, and didnt gain rpm's when i pulled the choke after warmed up, the airscrew isnt having much effect, but ran the best at a 1/2 turn out and it was kinda coughing/backfiring and then shooting blue flame when i held the throttle at that point right above 1/4 throttle

i raised my clip to the second notch down last nite, no change, blue flames, dropped the clip to the 4th down just now and got it to rev ok without cutting out or stumbling, but my airscrew is the whole way in, tight, and this jetting info i have printed out says to go larger on the pilot for that sympton, but holy fuk i have it sittin here and it's a 60 pilot, and the main is a 155< which i'm not even worried about right now till i get the bottom end figured out, then i'll do mains
but jeeez a 60 pilot and the info is saying go bigger, WTF??????? and theres a good amount of rich smoke even at idle thru wot, seems rich to me???? starts right up, idles fine, but the choke will kill it???
the keihin jetting info says richen up the pilot to cure the airscrew in tight, but the symptons say rich????

lasx, yes standard bore and crank, i'm not gettin too fusy with this right now, just had some spare time, i'm sending off for porting soon, and i do know this is prolly to big for a stock bore and stroke, and that there may not be enuf airflow right now for this to work correctly, but i had to see for myself, and i got it for $40 like brand new, so i gotta at least try
there was a 60 pilot in it, so just stuck a 48 pilot in it, same thing, wont rev without the airscrew turned the whole way in, and now its hangin up not iidling down, lean for sure,
gonna try the next bigger size over 60 next chance i get and see what that does
then may just wait for porting before foolin with it much more, i just wanted it to run before that, one thing at a time

damn that was a massive pilot in there

im just playing here awk and this is off topic but what the hell does the title of this have to do with ur carb lmao.......

i was waiting to see some new plastics or something lol

hey freek, when this thing was first stumbling and cutting out at about 1/4 throttle, i held it there for a few seconds and blue flame about 4 inches long was shooting out of the silencer, looked like a fighter jet kickin in the afterburners, hahahaa, cool but not the disered condition, i thought it says all that in the first post????
and i knew that headline would get more lookers than "another jetting thread'.
and yeah a 60 pilot is huge, but the airscrew turned all the way in is saying go bigger, i saw an 80 at the dealers earlier?????
gimme some freeky advice!!!!

i'm no keihin tuning expert but i'm thinkin you have a problem else were in the carb causing this condition, it doesn't sound like it's responding to much of the tuning your givin it, my theory on owning a carb is that you might as well spend a few bucks and buy damn near every jet you think you'll ever need and then some, i went ahead and bought every pilot, needle, and main mikuni makes for my carb, even bought a couple different style slide for fine tuning, just my .02

awk did u completely tear apart the carb.....as 2stroke4ever said its sounds as if something else is wrong with the carb.....u should notice big diffrences with all the changes u have made, and it seems like is hasnt really done much at all

also have ya done crankseals recently......possibly burning tranny oil ??

this is a barely used carb, it looks brand new, the vent hoses arent even discolored, and no i do not have an air leak, it idles just fine, if i pull the choke it will die, and i snapped the clamp holding the carb to the intake and then had an air leak, and it definately idled up then, but seems all good, just my air screw needs to be turned the whole way in for it to rev??? gonna pull it again and give it a good cleaning, maybe the pilot circut has something clogging it from delivery???
and no i just redid every part in this motor last spring, and ran it with my stock carb 15 minutes before this install, so unless a bigger carb can blow a crank seal they're all good

hmmmm........very strange lol, that airscrew all the way in and reving fine is saying that u have wayy to much air going in but yet the airscrew is bottomed out not allowing any air from that circuit of the carb........have u tried it with and without the airbox lid on the cfm u got??

just doesnt make sense lol
