Blaster Air Leak?

I have a 2004 Blaster that has been acting strange. Starting up cold it runs fine. As it warms up it starts idleing fast and I try to adjust the idle down but I run out of idle adjustment. Yesterday I was blipping the throttle in neutral and it went full throttle and I couldn't kill it with the kill switch. I then blipped the throttle and it brought it back down and shut off. Do I have an air leak or is something possibly sticking? I'm leaning towards an air leak. Can you check for an air leak on the case with the engine running or is really the only way to use a leak tester?

make sure the top cap of carb is tight.
they come loose check it with your hand.
throttle cable getting binded up.
airscrew setting?
free flowing gas?
could be a massive air leak but i would start at carb, and get a leak tester:)

For whatever reason, the motor is VERY lean. The most likely cause is an air leak. The only way to find the leak is with a leakdown test. When it reved high and wouldn't shut down with the kill switch, you had what is called a runaway. The spark plug got so hot it acted like a glow plug. Opening the throttle introduced enough cool air to cool off the spark plug enough that it would shut off. Do NOT run it anymore till you do a leakdown test.
