banshee overheating

it may pay to drop the coolant, take off the hoses, clean and back flush the system because if there is are chunks of dirt in there, the capillaries in the top of the radiatior may be blocked not allowing coolant to flow.

can anyone help me my banshee keeps overheating. we took the side case off for the water pump and the fluid that came out was dirty with chunks of dirt in it. any info u guys?:(

thats not good. i would first make sure the impeller is in good working order and the system has no leaks. i would flush out the system really well and see if that works. with debris in there it may not be letting the coolant work its way freely through the radiator, engine and pump. probably just needs cleaned out. auto parts stores sell chemicals that you can use to aid in removing the garbage from the cooling system. i have heard of guys using a strong liquid bleach/water mix and letting that soak for a while then flushing with a garden hose.

When you flush the radiator put the hose in the bottom and seal it up the best you can to allow as much water as possible to flow out or the top hole and cap.

If you can insert a compressed air gun along with the hose and give a few quick squirts of air, this process is to encourage any debris laying or blocking the top end of the radiator tubes, to be flushed up and out of the top end of the radiator.

If it were me id take the rads off and take them to a local radiator repair shop and have them boiled out in the tank they have that they use to clean the rads before repair.

Had an old 5.0 i was working on that had the same issues and symptoms cost 8 bucks at the local shop to have them toss it in and it was clean enough to eat off of threw a couple coats of paint on it and its still in my 84 lx 5.0 coupe.

In spect the impellor closely, they are known to deteriorate over time. Check that it rotates when engine cranks, even grab impellor and try twisting it to be sure the gear isn't stripped, it's plasdick too. X-2 on pro cleaning of rad. If it still gives problems after this you may have to tear motor apart to clean dirt that has settled at bottom of water jackets on cylinders, I don't think any amount of backflushing/cleaners will remove sediment and dirt there. If you pull clutch cover be sure to use a new O-ring on the water tube that comes out the back of the pump. I:I
