Hi all,
After splitting my motor, and waiting for my seals, I notice that my balance shaft was knocking on the casing (I am aware of the factory machined clearence, but there was extra material missing and was knocking when rotated...)
Apon closer inspection, the front bearing had close to 1mm play. Removal was ok, but was sitting very tight.
The rear bearing was a nightmare, I made a pulling tool from high tensile steel and a sliding weight, hours later, still nothing, sprayed freeze on bearing, nothing, heated casing a bit with a torch (not my method of choice) still nothing.
So, to those struggling with the same problem, this is what I did to get it out.
-Small old screwdriver/nail, to break the bearing cage.
- Move the balls all to one side
- Remove center of bearing
- Now, take your trusted Dremel tool ( a must have) with a grinding stone and carefully grind through the bearing shell to split it.
- Now you simply tap it with a screwdriver and pull it out.
The whole process too no longer than 20min, max!!!
Just a word of warning- I dont suggest trying to pry it out using the back casing as support, or trying the blu tack/chewing gum and rod method, as the casing is not very thick behind the bearing.
Freeze the new bearing before inserting, and male sure to clean the casing with some water paper, then add some lube.
Happy riding
