I just got a blaster off a friend that I previously sold to him. So now its back to me, this is a trouble child blaster, it went through a couple pistons, flywheel keys, spark plugs. It just loves to break down and I am determined to fix it so it doesn't! Right now the problem is that it starts up great, after 20 seconds of idling or riding it feels like it is running out of gas. It backfires and bogs until it dies and does not want to start again. I see puffs of blue smoke coming from the carb every time it backfires, I can hear it, it sounds like compressed air coming through a small space. It will start for a second and then the same thing happens. It will not start until you wait a nice amount of time. What could be the problem? bad reeds? It stumps me!

Also what about the carb gasket that may need replaced first thing i would look for is clogs in the fuel line 2nd clean the carb jets and all 3rd would be the float height 4th reeds and 5th would be make sure you have the right spark plug in there then if all else previously stated fouls i would try electrical like the tors sytem

Its amazing how I miss the simplest things. I pulled the spark plug and it had a nice layer of oil on it. Popped a new one in and it works perfectly! I went ahead and cleaned and adjusted everything you guys said though, spark gap, jets, petcock, all that good stuff just to be sure. I rode it around for a while, let the motor rest for 10 minutes, let it idle of 5, put a new spark plug in and gently rode it down the street. I turned around and let it wail full throttle and when i got in last gear I had it WOT for about 3 seconds. I killed the motor while pulling in the clutch, I coasted to a stop. Checked the plug and it was white on one side of the insulator and dark brown on the other, this was for the top 1/3 of it. The bottom metal piece (forgot what its called!) looked like it was corroded a little, kinda like it was running lean? any thoughts.

Thanks for the reply's so far guys! I am loving the help!

What ratio are you running or is the oil pump still hooked up

My brother who owned this quad first, he blocked off the injection. I used premix of 32:1, 8 oz oil to 2 gallons gas.

yep, br8es, it runs good with a good amount of blue smoke, idles well, revs well, plug chops I guess look good. sounds like it shouldn't give me trouble (knock on wood) :P

Dump the br8es and use b8es, the r series can play up if the electricals are not spot on.

R series is to stop radio interference and somewhat hinders the spark.

thanks for the tip! I will order up some b8es, well on my way to a race ready blaster! lol hopefully someday 8-|
