we just replaced the crank seals on my friends 2000 blaster and air is leaking out of the vent tube on the transmission behind the cylinder. ive heard of many people capping this off should it be capped? if not what else could be the problem here??

Had the same problem it was the cases where they meet in the centre leaking air. With the clutch cover, clutch removed etc mine was leaking behind the bearing for the balancer shaft

we just looked and the seal is good but right above the balancer gear there is a jagged round hole at the top and air is leaking from there. it appears to be badly man drilled into it

was it like this pic?

The best bet is to buy the whole side case or find a person parting out a blaster. The guy whoes selling the shift lever still has it!!

i didnt fix it,i assumed it was made like that.i dont have anyproblems with oil going out the vent hole.
sounds like theres air being pressurised in your transmission area.need to find out why
did you try running it and take the oil plug off and see if theres alot of pressure build up?

That hole is supposed to be there to allow air to pass between the balancer shaft area and clutch cover area.

The air is not "leaking" there but is leaking from between the case halves or from the cases themselves. Has this engine ever had a shattered piston? The crankcase is sealed away from the transmission area if everything is working properly. A broken piston piece can get trapped between the crankshaft and the case and break the case out. A broken case MUST be repaired before the engine can be run properly.

Go to this thread:

and look at the materials used to repair a broken case (and what to be looking for).
