The airbox lid has a little "snorkel" back behind the fuel tank that has a tiny little end on it. The "mod" is to either remove the airbox lid completely (if you don't do mud) or drill holes in the lid and put an "outerwears" on it to keep water out.
Both are done to increase air flow into the engine and must be matched with a jetting increase!
