Im new to this forum and new to atv's. Just picked up a 98 blaster from a friend and it has been sitting for bout a year or so. Being a hotrodder, first thing was to drain the fuel and a new plug. I still would not start, no fire, so started checking the electical and i apeared to be the cdi. Bought a new one and it started and ran for a min. the died would not start again. Once again no fire. The tors was still plugged in even after being remove, unplugged it and starts within to kicks every time, even cold. But it still lacks power or get up and go. If i was to compare it to a car id say the clutch is slipping bad. Check that and it looks great. If you get on the throttle and it hooks it sounds like it is haulin, but your really not going anywhere. I know the bike has been modded, but not sure to what extent. It has an fmf pipe and silencer, pj carb not sure of the size, and modified air box. Do not know what is in the engine itself. Any suggestion would be the s__t. Thanks

Well first off, Welcome to the forum. Maybe the float is stuck in the carb. usually if gas sits in the carb awhile it gets gunked up. try taking apart the carb and clean it with sea foam. just my 2 cents

dont think thats quite it...if it was his float it would be a high idle...

pull off the head, and see what the piston looks like...

check your reeds, don't think it is your reeds but just check make sure that your cluch cable is not set to tight. where in the lever dose your cluch catch top (front of bike) midle or bottom (back of bike)

how do your sprocket's look like?

clean on your carbs bowl there is def crud in there gumming carb up and like l.t said if you feel your throttle response is weak clean your air filter and check your reeds

The throttle response is very good, the motor sounds as if it is making it all the way through the rpms, but just not pulling, like it is spinning the tires. The clutch lever on the block lines up with the mark on the block. If it were the float stuck and running out of fuel I would think that the motor would fall on it face. Not sure how reeds can affect the motor. Like I commented If it was a car Id say the clutch was slipping, but it looks like new. I dont know if it could be the springs or not and there is a slight bit of play in clutch basket were the gear meets the basket.

What clucth would you recomend. If it doesn't already have a big bore it going to get it this winter when I tear it down for repaint and suspension. I know it not going to happen but would like for it to run a close as possible to the outlaw 450.
