I just got my hands on a 89 blaster. The motor is shot and i will be doing a full rebuild and have a few questions. 1st how can i tell if the oil injection is working? 2nd once i split the case can i reuse the bearings and seals? Any other info or advise would be awesome!!!

I dont have much experience with oil injection so I dont know.but the bearing can be reused If they spin freely and dont have any rough spots but I wouldnt recommend it. And just replace the seals they're cheap

Delete the oil injection then you dont have to worry about if it works or not, buy a set of all balls crank bearings, they come with seals for crank, an there 45 sshipped on eBay, I wouldn't reuse anything while i have the cases split, I had to replace a left case half recently and i put new crank and everything in it while it was apart, its just cheap insurance

And you said All Balls had OEM bearings. You can't beat the price.

The injection pump can be checked for oil delivery.

If you bleed the system as per specs it will save you the trouble of deleting it.

The oil injection should be left intact unless you have a good reason for disabling it, it is very trustworthy.

Thanks guys.. turns out the bottom end was rebuilt 2 yrs ago so i think il leave it until winter when i park it. Now i just have to get a piston kit and new reeds.

Is there a site i can find the specs or do i have to buy the manual?

One more question for you guys. Is there diffrent models of engines for blaster? If so what years can i use parts from?

there have been 3 very slight different versions of the blaster, all engine internals were the same,
except the 4 to 5 wire stator swap in 03+
88/89
90-02 added heelgaurds
03-06 added hydro brakes and new hood/headlight, axle/carrier/spindles and frame tabs to support the changes
all 3 versions had different front spindles

On replacing things for assurance...

When I was 16, I worked at a mechanic's shop that was close to where I went to school. Out back, he had an early 90s Honda Civic that had very evidently been left for dead. I asked about it and he told me that the lady who owned it had gotten the car as a present from her father. She had not one clue about maintaining cars and didn't know that she had to change the oil. The engine finally sh*t the bed at almost 60000 miles (IIRC) and the dealership wouldn't warranty it and the lady couldn't afford to fix it so she left it.

It went that far with old oil in it, but imagine how far it would have gone with new oil.

If you have a chance to replace a high wear item like oil or seals and bearings, replace it. There's no sense in putting all those hours into something, only to have it undone by not requesting a new set of seals while you're already ordering gaskets. Wait that extra day and spend that extra $45 so that you don't have to wait for months and spend hundreds or more due to a blown engine because you didn't replace those parts.

The saying, "work as though you will work forever" comes to mind.

I agree with tfaith08; if you're going to be doing a rebuild, go all the way and replace all the seals. That's what I did with mine. And that's just a suggestion, I'm not in the business of telling people what to do; you're free to think for yourself.
PS- tfaith08, you earn my vote for the funniest signature I've ever seen.

Lol, Blaaster had a doozie a while back. Something about filing a chain down to match the wear on the sprocket lmao.

OP, butt back in when you have questions. We tent to mess around after a few answers are given, but we'll get on topic as soon as you chime back in.
