Hi guys, I love this site I read it all the time. My problem is that I rebuilt my topend and was just finishing my breakin and the blaster just sputtered and died. I thought it ran out of gas but when I pushed it home I had no spark. Where do I start to find out what went wrong. Thanks

its would sputter because the timing would be off till it was off so bad that the motor would shut off... mine did it 2 times.. the first time it it just died then when it started again the motor would just run backwards... the sec time i thought i blow the top end.. it sounds like it metal grinding. but it was the flywheel hitting the case.

i just use a hammer and a screwdriver... place screwdriver behind the flywheel and hit the crank with a hammer.. you need to put a little force on the screwdriver but don't crack your case.. i have done it a few times with no problems.

I`m going to check the grounds today and wait for the puller to get here. I know my luck, If could break it will. How do I check the stator and coil? I had big plans for this thing this weekend but it has other plans.

Well theres a way to check them with a volt meter although I don't know it lol.
My way of checking is to get all buttoned up and check for spark ;)

I pulled the flywheel cover off this morning and there is gear oil and small pieces of plastic in the bottom of the case under the flywheel. Where could this have come from? My puller will be here on Monday so I can`t pull the flywheel until then.

It appears you blew a crank seal since theres oil in there.
Not sure where the plastic came from though.
I'm interested to see whats up once the flywheel comes off.

I`m just stabbing at straws here but what would make the seal come apart like that? Do I need to split the case and check bearings? ( God I hope not) I guess I`m going to be on here a lot bugging you guys. I have 3 atv`s but this Blaster is the most fun of all of them, I really want to get it going again. Thanks for the help

it most likely does have some bad bearings, if the seal has completely fell apart, the retaining spring inside the seal has probably wreaked some havoc on those bearings, but if the seal is just leaking, the bearings might be okay

I pulled the flywheel today and the stator is in pieces. It looks like a little screw fell out and distroyed the stator. The spring from the seal was in there too. The seal seems hard as a rock. Is there a way to get the seal out without splitting the case? I`m sure glad you guys are out there.

yes u can replace the seal without splitting case..i use a flat head and get that sucker outta there. dont damage the bareing behind it though.put some gasket seal on outside of new so it will go in a lil easier

Thanks, Now that I take a closer look the spring might have been from the stator. It seems a little small to be from the seal. I`m going to change the seal tonight, just need to pick up a stator and of course no shops around here carry Blaster parts

there isnt a spring any where in there except on the seal.make sure to loctite the screws when u put it back together. and torque the flywheel with an impact and use loctite also. sucks to break flywheel keys. if i was u i would buy a few extra when u buy ur stator.they are like a dollar each. i have 5 just incase...

I just pulled the seal out....Toast, the crank bearing is missing about 4 balls. Looks like major surgery. Does anyone know where to pick up the case splitter tool and the crank installer tool? I guess it`s a total rebuild.
