Anybody know if 400ex FRONT SHOCKS will fit? I know someone getting rid of some fairly cheap and even if I had to do slight mods to make it work, it may be worth it! I've seen the posts about 400ex rear and I'm trying to find one as we speak, but have never heard anyone say whether the fronts will work. Any info would be much appreciated and thanks everyone in advance!I:I

they are too long to fit properly. the a-arms would be smashed to the bump stops, that is, if you could compress the shocks to get them in their.
Thats what I figured Suprex, but thanks very much for confirming my thoughts. I don't guess there would be any way to change mounting points without seriously messing with the frame, huh? Oh, well, it was worth a shot, LOL!
In XC you wouldn't want stiffer shocks. I don't think I would even get the 400 rear if I were you. That is normally for those that are using a extended swingarm changing the leverage or are just jumping alot. Same goes for banshee/raptor fronts since they will be stiffer also. Spend your money elswhere.

you are welcome. and yes, they will fit with the shock conversion kit. i have ltz-400 fronts (clone of the 400ex) and they are much better than stock.
He will not be using the widening kit thought. blasterfreek30 sounds like you may have answered , but do either of you know if the shock kit would work without the widening kit? With the 400 shocks is the front stiffer? He races XC so he doesn't need anything stiffer. What ever he goes with has to soak up alot of bumps and not really jumps.
yes, the shock conversion kit is separate from the widening kit and will work with aftermarket shocks... i would recommend yzf450 fronts. or a dual rate shock.
How much is the shock conversion kit and where would I get it? Also, about what would it cost for some yfz 450 shocks? Again, thanks very much for all the info!
ebay for everything but!!!!! yfz shocks are pretty pricey but worth it and the conversion kit is about 70 bucks, but its the only way longer shocks will work!
I deff would not use Banshee shocks since they arent really adjustable enough. Unless you can get a great deal on 450 shocks and the kit you might as well just get works steelers and have them built for you. I think that would be a better option than going with 450 shocks and it may even be cheeper.
i paid 270 for my 450 fronts and they were takeoffs of an 07. i think works steelers are about 395 to 450 and also having them built for your weight is gonna tac on some extra bucks, so even with my conversion kit and shocks it is still cheaper but let me know how you make out!
