3rd gear gone...

When i shift it from 2nd, third gear is like a neutral. and i cant go past it to 4,5,6, it just like goes back to neutral, think that could be a bent shift rod, or something to do with gear oil, I know it was pretty low, but only ran it for like 3 min.

thats prolly why then...need some new shift forks...maybe a new clutch

Check the star gear to see if it is loose or a broken key.

sounds like a bent shift fork to me.
i suppose it could be what pittboss said too. i think if the star detent was spun or something you wouldn't be able to get into 2nd either though.
when did this start to happen? have you been racing and slamming through the gears?
probably not a clutch problem but a good way to tell is try to get her into 3rd or 4th w/ the engine off then start her up.

I just got the motor, supposedly it only had a blown top end, but than i started it, and it shifts perfect 1st and 2nd than 3rd, it goes into a neutral, but if i down shift from that neutral it goes back into second. I will try to see if i can shift it with it off, but what will that tell me if i can? that the star is fine, I am gonna try that than take the clutch cover off and take a look at the star...

I havent had a chance to take it apart yet, But i tried shifting with it off and only could go to third, but that was like a neutral, but after that i rode it for a bi t, and my cousin said he got it into 3rd once, but that was it, he didnt try to go past that either, i tired many times after that and couldnt.

check your shift fork. its on your shift shaft and has a spring. it grabs the star gear to spin it. make sure the C isnt bent or worn out. maybe take pics for us.

but check the star gear GOOD. theres a chance that there might be an issue with one of the points that the shift fork cant grab it and turn it.

I took the clutch out and I was lookin at it everything apears to be alrihgt from the outside, I took the shift rod off, it looks to be fine, and I watched how it was shifting and the hook grabs first and second, but when it gets to third, it kinda just sits in between it and the hook wont grab it, I will try to get some pics up if anyone could explain how to load them it would be great. or if you have any ideas of the problem thanks.

Ohh yeah and all the points on the star look to be good.
