Hey guys i was wondering about the old honda 250r's. Now ive done a bit of research and saw that the 88 were far ahead of the 86and 87. I am thinking about buying one but i was wondering if they were reliable in there stock form. Im 15 and been saving up for a new quad for over a year and i love my blaster but im ready to move up. Thanks:)

The 88's have a 4mm longer stroke than 87 and 86. They are super reliable bikes, and they aren't referred to as the legendary 250r for no reason. I absolutely love mine, I'll never get rid of it.

The '88-'89's also have an aluminum swinger, slightly different front hubs, intergrated foot pegs instead of the standard bolt on ones and the swinger is also about 1 1/2'' shorter.

hey i already knew what the differences between the two generations were i was wondering about the bikes in general and my blaster is completely stock but i dont feel like putting 2-3 thousand into my blaster to make it equal to a 250r when i could buy one for that price

one more thing how will it do against a stock z400 because my friend has one and i need something faster than what he has

haha... my best suggestion... keep the blasty... put a lil money into it.... port, +3 stroker, pipe, intake, carb, suspension and a arms and go from there with whatever else u want or need.... and ull be just as fast as a z400... and pretty even with a 250r.... the 250r is a great bike... but its harder to do work on urself... bec of liquid cooling, also they need a bit more maintainence than a blasty... but those hondas r nice and will last 4ever
