240 Big bore questions

its not hard at all read up on it with the search bar and no you cant run oil injection because you have to get a bigger carb for it to run right

dont remove the pump. just remove your clutch cover (buy a new gasket) and take the little plastic gear off the pump then put it back together and seal the lines coming out of the clutch cover and the line going into the carb.

Thank you very much:)! I'll give it a go tomorrow, is it pretty simple getting into the crank case? nothing to remove before i take out that little gear? How exactly do you remove the gear?

you arent going into the crank case. just drain all your oil out of the bottom of the cases... take all the bolts off and the kick starter off. then pull the clutch cover off. you will see the plastic gear on the other side. it has a little c clip on it pull it off and the gear comes right off. then your almost done just plug up the oil tubes that run to the carb and into the pump. and ur done. use a new gasket and put it back together then filler up with oil and ur good to go

brings up another question, sorry im a 15 year old and my uncle gave me this thing, just started getting into it. Am I good to take off the oil tank? and what do i do with the line running to the carb?

after removing the gear (I think you have to remove the foot peg to get the clutch cover off) and plugging the lines on the case you can remove the oil tank and put a vaccume cap on the carb where the oil line was and most importantly dont forget to mix your gas and oil together usually at 32:1 and rejet the carb as needed

drain all the old gas out. remove the oil tank. be sure to plug all the lines going into the clutch cover (you can cut them like 2in long and fill them with rtv) then get a vacuum cap for the line on the carb you can then fill your tank with premixed gas and go vroom vroom

I know how to mix gas with the correct ratios and all, as I am a avid leaf blower! How often will I need to rejet, and what causes that to need to be done? where can I get a vacuum cap?

I am learning:) thank you all for your help

i don't think this is true, i have a big bore blaster with stock carb and oil injection and my quad runs fine

vaccume caps are at parts stores and hardware stores bring in the line off of the carb to get the proper size and jetting needs to be checked and changed as needed when you make a modification in this case changing to premix the oil takes up space in the fuel so as the carb sucks the same amount of fluid as it did before some of it is oil now so you are in turn getting less gas into the motor changing the jetting up may be required but check it before changing it instuctions are availible on the site

you need to rejet any time you change the amount of air entering or leaving the engine. this means for new air filters or removing the air box lid, larger/smaller carbs, port work, exhausts ect.. you also need to change it for altitude changes and temperature changes. you may not need to rejet often but you need to do three basic checks often.

compression test- this one is easy buy a compression tester. put it in where the spark plug goes. with a cold cylinder. hold the throttle wide open and kick the kickstarter (be sure the engine switch is off) until the pressure gauges no longer moves this needs to be around 120psi or above to prove you have healthy compression

one more thing... I research this stuff during school a lot... because i get bored.. and I read at a couple of different places that you can wear out a bore size or something like that? explanations? how long is this gonna take to happen to my new cylinder?

depends on how you maintain the bike. you do the stuff i posted up there before. and be sure to clean and do maintenance such as oil changes new plugs cleaning the carb and stuff regularly. and also replacing the rings on the piston and honing the engine every so often and that engine can last a long time on a single bore. i own a 2001 and i just recently tore the top end off (ive only had it for a few months) but its still on the original bore from factory
