Hey guys i bought a blaster yesterday that wasn't running...

First thing i did was pull plastics remove the gas tank remove the plug and do a compression test i was amazed at the 150 psi result.

then i check for spark and it had it ( this is where i went wrong ) after seeing it had the park i gave the carb a quick cleaning and still it did nothing.

so i sat there confused for a while because it had every thing it needed to run...

so i called a buddy of mine and it turns out it would only get that first jolt of spark and that's it. For example if you bring the kicker all the way up and give it a good kick it will spark but if u continue to kick it with out letting the motor stop spinning it does not spark.

If i had to guess ide say its the stator... All my grounds look perfect and i think if the coil or cdi box was bad it wouldnt spark at all ever but i could be wrong.

I am just looking for a solid opinion before i order a flywheel puller to change the stator.

what do you guys think ?

thanks in advance I:I

Good morning and Welcome I:I First "tool" you should buy is a Clymers Repair manual. Flywheel puller is a great tool to have also.

How long do you let it set before you get a spark again? Clean and tighten all grounds and connections, maybe give them a dab of die-electric grease. Do you have TORS still hooked up? Parking brake switch? Troubleshooting is a process of elimination. :D

yeah the parking switch is still hooked up if u so much as wait even a half second it will spark again. what is TORS?

I have the repair manual but its pretty useless considering it doesn't have a section covering my problem.

there is no lock on it i tried holding it doesnt make any diff.

the kid i got it from said it slowly started to run like sh*t before it eventually wouldn't start at all.

yeah ngk br8es

i believe its the pickup on the stator i ordered a new one 26 bucks. I will post here my results that way people know if they have a similar problem.

the coil usually is bad or good not good some times same for the cdi box. The stator itself is good because when u kick it the lights go on. I believe the pickup for the spark must be shot.

ok guys i really need help here i have changed the cdi box with stator igniter ( pickup ) the coil i have cleaned every connection.

what is the proper way to test the stator? I have a ohm meter

I still only get a strong blue spark on the first kick and then nothing.

I'm kinda confused, id you change the pick up behind the flywheel? or just the CDI under the seat. the ignition pick up and the lighting pick up are separate under the flywheel and one could be bad and the other good.

I changed the pickup that's on the stator. The stator had 2 separate coils one for cdi and one for headlight and brake lights, between them is the pickup.

I have a really strong spark but its only there for a second then it goes away. What could do that?? :-/

pull the connector under the seat from the wire coming from the stator that goes to the black box under the front plastic (W/B i believe) and test to see what kinda voltage your getting there. then go to the other side of that box before the CDI, then check the voltages from the CDI. You should have the specs somewhere in the breakdown book on what the output should be. anything out of spec will help point you to where your problem is. I wouid go the lazy route and pull the plug and the flywheel cover and spin the motor by hand instead of kicking this whole time as well.
