gearing really depends on what mods are done to your motor. For one thats mild (like yours) 14/40 would be pretty good. once you get more work done to it (porting, carb, bb cylinder) you can go to a 14/38 and be able to pull all the gears pretty easily

If you want the best performance for the money, porting is the way to good. Get an aggresive mx port and the head modded. Porting the cylinder will allow more fuel and air into and out of the cylinder. Modifying the head will produce more compression. Once thats done, get a bigger carb and some smaller rear tires (20's) 22's are pretty heavy and take alot to get them moving.

You'll get spanked. Port it and introduce a bottle to it......race for money.........when you win, take your won money and rebuild your blown motor with a larger crank and carb. Race again without bottle, take that won money to buy a quad that was designed to race and be fast. Enjoy your new 450!! ~the end.
ok from the sounds of it some people in here are mistaking it for a cr 250 well its not a 2 stroke its a crF 250 a fourstroke 250 and yes there not bad my friend has one i think off the start you will get him but he will contend in the higher gears so its a close one but you got a good chance
and with a 240 KIT dont you HAVE to resleeve your head????? so you cant bore a 200 to a 240CC please give me feed back thanks
nah the 240 kit comes with a cylinder so u dont need to re-sleeve or whatever....i believe with the 240 kit you get a whole new top end! Also, yea i thought id have a better chance at this race then what everyone has been saying so far...its an 05 crf 250 four stroke....would taking off the airbox lid help and do i need to re jet or anythin to do run the engine with it off??
oh...lol..the head....nah i dont think so still...but maybe...i think with the vitos 240 kit you dont have to do anythin but bolt everythin back on
srry ta say it but there is no way you could win...it easly is lighter by 100lbs,more cc,has better power to weight ratio...thats why they dont run dirtbikes and quads in the same race...jus unfair

Yea but i bet just buying the sleeve has a lot more work involved then just bolting on the 240kit! Even though just a sleeve is probably a hell of a lot less expensive!
CRF 250 ARE TO FAST FOR A BLASTER BUT IT DEPENDS IF YOU RACE HIM ON A MOTOCROSS TRACK U SHOULD WIM BUT IN A DRAG HE WILL WIN.
ok like i have said before. go race. what i can tell you is my buddy has a 07 crf250, and when we are on trails and tighter areas we are pretty even, however if we get into a wide open area he is gone so quick.
I know i started this thread months ago just before my engine blew up...im gettin the engine back soon and as soon as friend and i can go ridin well race and i ll have u all stunned to find out i will beat him.....lol maybe!
even though its a 4 it is a 250 and is his bone stock as well?? cuz i raced a klx 250 enduro ( street legal ver. for the newbs out there) and got wooped when i was about to shift into 5th gear also he has a cr250 with a $1200 exhaust and that thing is sick we are even until im about to shift into 3rd and he goes blowing past me and im all like OMFG ( he is using better oil too i like the smell when he flies by <3)
