I am new to blaster forum and need some help.
i have a 2002 blaster and it will not start. i went to go ride it and it didn't have as much power as usual. i went down to the pit out back and it backfired and slowly died. :(
i thought the spark plug might be fouled out so i got a new one. once i put it in it started right up... for a second, then it slowly died again and wouldn't start again. :-/

if any one has had this problem be for, or has any ideas on what it could be it would be much appreciated!!

depends on what all went wrong could only need new rings and hone the cylinder or you could need a bore and a new pistion to match but first things first compresion test

to unhook your tors, you need to unplug the whole system. (88-2002) blasters i believe. unplug the 2 wires on top of your carb, follow them to the plug in the front of the blaster under the hood, and unplug the 2 wires coming out of your throttle. but yeah, do a compression test, and check your reeds. check them to see if they arent warped and not broken. if they are warped, you can flip them over. if theyre broke, you need to buy new ones.

OK i didn't get a compression tester yet. but i checked my reeds and its chipped at the bottom so Ive ordered new carbon fiber ones.... heres where i get lost. i must have a loose wire somewhere because the spark plug is only getting a spark every once and a while???? And how many psi should it read on the compression tester?

at least 120 on the test, u can until ur down to 100-110, but me i would replace at least the rings at 110. but if u have ur engine apart u might as well do it all and do it right the first time. the spark could be something as small as the plug boot being bad. also could be the cdi stator etc.

ok i used my friends compression tester and kicked it over a cupple times and it went to 120 then slowley started to go down and stoped at 60 so i gess i have a leak. :(
or the compression tester is leaking.

the compression testor wont tell you if you have a leak. a leakdown testor will. to do a compression test, hold the throttle wide open and kick the ish out of the kick starter a couple times. but pm holeshotman. he sells leakdown testors

he doesnt sell them anymore so just make your own it will only cost about 15 bucks and the compresion tester must not be working right it shouldnt leak if you want go to harbor freight and get one there like 10 bucks

im going to get new reeds tomorrow and then im going to do another compression test... thank all of you for all the help without it i would be stuck and probably selling my blaster!!
