Hi I am new to this forum and new to the ATV world in general. I have purchased an 02 blaster for my son. The engine came uninstalled from the atv. It also came in 3 pieces, minus the piston. I was told all it needed was to put in a new piston and rings. I'm fairly mechanicly inclined, but I have no idea where to start this project. I guess my main questions are:
1. It seems that boring out the cylinder is fairly common, if this has already been done, how do I find out what size piston to purchase.
2. Ive been told not to mess with the lower end, due to the complexity of reassembling it , should I leave it alone or rebuild the bottom too? How can I tell if it needs it?
3. Is this something that a novice should even attempt? ive priced out having the engine rebuilt at a shop and it will cost upwards of $700 dollars. Like I said i have the tools and the space, I have basic mechanical knowledge.
Thanks for any input .
